An exhibit opens at Pyro Gallery on November 14th featuring the work of new Pyro members Dave Caudill, Christine Kuhn, Mike McCardwell, Laura Roth, and Julie Yoder.  These new members bring a breadth of different media and ideas to the gallery.

New member Dave Caudill creates sculptures that are playful and spontaneous.  His new work features tables and benches made from recycled granite and steel. Each is unique and handmade, exhibiting the energy and excitement that is a hallmark of his work.

Christine Kuhn's mixed media pieces come from her "Murder Ballads" series, which address universal themes surrounding murder such as violence, death, and mourning. In order to make them, she immerses herself in the music, stories, and myths of murder, and then creates abstract imagery on the panels, allowing the imagery to develop as it comes to her.

Painter Mike McCardwell has had a long career in the academic world, and that experience has given him a non-traditional view of both the academic world and the outside world, and an ability to value both. This unique perspective shows through in the whimsical imagery of his paintings.

Laura Roth is an artist who uses painting as a way to capture and understand life.  In her work she explores the figure through emotion, gestures, and personality.   Roth depicts common occurrences and scenes in her pieces, as a way to make her work accessible to all people, and to illustrate the beauty and human bond of shared experiences.

Printmaker Julie Yoder uses various printmaking techniques to create rich and vibrant pieces. Her new body of work features woodcuts depicting fantastical, narrative scenes.   She draws from various art traditions to create a unique and engaging style.

The New Members Show will run through December 27th. There will be an opening reception November 14th from 5pm-9pm, and a First Friday Trolley Hop reception December 5th from 5pm-9pm.

Pyro Gallery will also be featuring an exhibition of works by Dominic Rouse, in concurrence with his show at 21C Museum.  The show, "Haunted by a Painter's Ghost," features digital images which layer imagery to create haunting, surrealist scenes.  His show will open November 14th and run through December 27th.
