A little sense about Christmas or Dracula may result in Tom Sawyer's Elaborate Entrance or even ReEntry.  Something that makes more sense than that last sentence is Actors Theatre's 2011-2012 season.

During the season, Actors Theatre will present seven shows and one festival, including:  Sense and Sensibility (Aug.-Sep.), Dracula (Sept.-Oct.), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Oct.) A Christmas Story (Nov.), ReEntry (Nov.-Dec.), A Christmas Carol (Dec.), The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity (Jan.-Feb. 2012), and the Humana Festival of New American Plays (Feb.-Apr. 2012).

All shows will go on at Actors Theatre, located at 316 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Season tickets for Actors Theatre are still available in a variety of packages.  The Choose Your Play package starts at $120, the Brown Forman Series package starts at $121, and the Flex Pass starts at $360 per package.  More information on the packages can be found at the Actors Theatre website.

    Seasonal selections

Depending on the season, Actors Theatre will present its traditional but still popular classics for young and old audiences alike.

Around Halloween time, the vampire Dracula will return to the Bingham Theatre stage looking for more blood as others attempt to stop him.  According to the Actors Theatre website, this show is "not for the faint of heart."  This blood-curdling good time will run from Sept. 16-Oct. 30.

If the snow and lighter attitude and spirit of Christmas is a person's thing, Actors Theatre will have two returning shows in which to celebrate, A Christmas Carol and A Christmas Story.

A Christmas Carol tells the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge, who is not exactly the kindest, least "bah-humbug"-type gentlemen on the block.  Over the sounds of holiday music, Scrooge will be visited by three ghosts, Chrismas Present, Past, and Future, and will begin to see his own human, not just holiday, spirit blossom.  A Christmas Carol, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, will run Dec. 6-Dec. 23 in the Pamela Brown Auditorium.

A more modern take on Christmas will appear as A Christmas Story, which chronicles Ralphie's never-ending quest to claim a prized toy, a Red Ryder BB Gun, for Christmas.  He attempts this despite dealing with school bullies, witnessing a triple dog dare against a frozen pole, his family winning a major award, and, of course, the constant warning that he'll shoot his eye out.

A Christmas Story will run in the Pamela Brown Auditiorium from Nov. 8-27.

    Classic books on stage

While some plays are based on the holidays, others are based on popular classic books.  The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, for instance, features the famous Mark Twain characters of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.  During the duo's mischevious summer adventures, Tom will find himself chasing the girl, set pranks, and somehow catches a criminal.  The adventure runs Oct. 4-29 in the Pamela Brown Auditorium.

Meanwhile, the Jane Austen classic Sense and Sensibility will roam the Actors Theatre stage beginning in a few weeks.  Two almost completely different sisters look to find their male match despite being without fortune and with little marriage prospects.  One sister is impulsive while the other lives on common sense.  Which style will win out, if any?  Find out at the Pamela Brown Auditorium from Aug. 30-Sept. 24.

    Productions with entrances

War takes center stage when Actors Theatre puts on ReEntry, which will run Nov. 15-Dec.17.  The heartwarming and inspirational story based on soldier interviews revolves around the lives of soliders at war and the situations they and their families back home have to face.  ReEntry will enter the Bingham Theatre during its run.

Another entrance into Actors Theatre's season will be a wrestling one that focuses on much more than that.  In The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, the All-American champ, Deity, is to defend his title against an Indian-born kid handpkiced by Macedonio The Mace Guerra.  However, all involved soon realize there is more than a title belt on the line but a defense against racial stereotypes as well.

The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety will run at the Bingham Theatre from Jan. 3-Feb.1

A festival you've probably heard about

Plays have become nationally and internationally renowned due to this festival, and it's coming back for a 36th year.  The 36th Annual Humana Festival of New American Plays will take place from Feb. 26-April 15.  During this time, original full plays and 10-minute productions will be performed and presented for an international audience.  Play information will come as the festival gets closer.

Another production, In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play, has dates TBA.  The show deals with marriage and intimacy.

More information on the Actors Theatre season and tickets can be found at its website.
