The Speed Art Museum presents Art in Motion Family Day on Saturday, December 27 from 12:00- 3:00 PM. You and the kids can experience art through motion as a part of this museum-wide family event.  Activities will include a performance of The Flatboat Adventures of John Stuart, the unveiling of Recollections 4.5 in the Art Sparks Interactive Gallery, an Art Sparks Family Studio focused on the art of photography and sound effect tours in the galleries.  Admission is free.

As part of this Family Day, take a journey through the changing geography of the Kentucky, Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers as an 1806 flatboat transports Kentucky goods to New Orleans in a special gallery performance of The Flatboat Adventures of John Stuart by Greg Hardison of the Kentucky Historical Society.  Tours that will explore highlights of the collection through sound and motion will be offered. Artist Ted Nathanson will lead hands-on art activities that include animation and flipbooks.

In Art Sparks, join Louisville artist Brenna Geary for an Art Sparks Family Studio on shutterspeed and photography. Studio is free with $5 admission to Art Sparks.

Art Sparks is getting an upgrade! Created by California artist Ed Tannenbaum, Recollections 4.5 gives an update to the wildly popular installation Art Sparks Interactive Family Gallery. Originally installed in 1997, this interactive video installation invites participants to move in front of a large video projection screen. As the person moves, their image is recorded by a video camera and their silhouette is then assigned a color based on the instant that it was recorded, and projected onto the screen. Over time the images build up, creating a painting based on the movement. Two hundred fifty six colors can be displayed on the screen at one time, from a palette of over 16 million. To date there have been over sixty Recollections systems installed worldwide. Ed Tannenbaum will be in Louisville and available for interviews December 21-23.
