Do you like latin music? Maybe bluegrass, classical, or rock? Well you are in luck. Starting today your musical appetite can be satisfied with some great live music. The whole month of April is packed solid with concerts, but I am just going to fill you in with shows thru Sunday. I will post an update with other great upcoming concerts next week.
Tonight, Wednesday, you can enjoy Relic's stellar bluegrass sound at the Monkey Wrench from 9pm-midnight. This band actually performs every Wednesday night at the Monkey Wrench, so if you can't make it this Monday check them out in the future. There tends to be a regular crowd that turns out, so make this part of your weekly routine. Best of all, this event is free to the public.
Another great bluegrass event tonight is at Mulligan's for their open stage jam. From 8pm to 11pm you can brink your ax and play with the band! Sign ups start at 7:45pm. Another free event.
Like to salsa? Check out Thursday nights at the SkyBar at 131 Breckenridge Lane. Cosa Seria and DJ Frank will be cranking out some latin beats from 9:30pm until 2am. At 7:30pm Gabe Scott will teach a salsa lesson before the band plays. So put on your dancing shoes and enjoy some live latin sounds! Admission is $7 at 9:30pm. If partaking in the dance class admission is $10.00.
On Friday night The Bibelhauser Brothers (from Relic) featuring Mike Cleveland will be playing at Uncle Slayton's, 1017 E. Broadway, with the lovely ladies of Maiden Radio (Julia Purcell, Cheyenne Marie Mize, and Joan Shelley). Doors open at 8pm with music starting at 8:30pm.
Another great bluegrass group, Hog Operation, will be playing at Wick's on Baxter Ave at 8pm. They will be playing as a 3-piece with Steve Cooley, Larry Raley, and Screamin' John. This yet another free event, so buy some beer and delicious pizza to go along with the great music to be enjoyed.
Saturday night is hopping. There are so many shows to choose from. I still haven't decided what I am attending. I am for sure attending Gonzofest at the Monkey Wrench, 1025 Barret Ave, because I am playing at it. Come see the crazy antics of the seven piece band, Jack Holiday and the Westerners, in an acoustic setting at 6pm. If you haven't heard fuzz, folk rock before here is your chance.
If you miss the Bibelhauser Brothers featuring Mike Cleveland on Wednesday and Friday, you get a third chance on Saturday. No excuses at this point. They will be playing in the down stairs room at Decca located at 812 E. Market St starting at 8pm. If you like fiddling, you have to hear Mike Cleveland shred on the fiddle.
Christian rock band, Second Perception, is hosting their "Beauty in a Broken Heart" album release show at Eastside Christian Church at 2319 Veterans Pkwy in Jeffersonville, IN at 7pm. Also on the bill are The Lasting Hope, Rachel May, and The Delicate.
More latin dancing happening on Saturday night with two of Louisville's best latin bands. Appalatin and Cosa Seria are playing at the Vernon Club, 1575 Story Ave, from 9pm-midnight. Doors open at 8pm with music by Appalatin starting at 9pm and Cosa Seria at 10:30pm. Cover is $10 and includes a dance lesson.
After a whirlwind weekend, relax with Classical Revolution at The Bard's Town, 1801 Bardstown Rd. This monthly event is free to the public and features classical chamber music in a open mic atmosphere. Bring an instrument and join in or just enjoy the playing. Music is performed from 7pm-10pm.
