Another new pizza place has found the heart of St. Matthews. But this one isn't after the drinking crowd or the average consumer. Naked Pizza, a concept only in it's third of a couple dozen planned franchises, started in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina with the concept that pizza doesn't have to be bad for you... It could be GOOD for you.
Now open to the public, the St. Matthews' Naked Pizza store (135 Breckenridge Lane) was packed most of Saturday evening while the store officially unveiled itself to the neighborhood, offering discounted pizzas, samples and door prizes.
The store itself follows the set-up of a take-and-bake competitor (think Papa Murphy's) with a small storefront and a large colorful menu instructing customers to pick what nutritious fare they'd like to see on their personal pie. It's really a pizza version of the Chop Shop - the salad business that opened a location across the street from where Naked Pizza is now located just a few months ago...
Price-wise, Naked Pizza starts with the basic set-up price and then adds up the cost as you pile on the toppings - or just order one of their pre-determined selections that vary from $12.99-$16.99 depending on size.
