Whenever possible, I like to shop locally owned stores. More money stays in the community, and the landscape is full of cute little mom-and-pop type places. Not to mention that the service is usually better.
This is especially true of restaurants. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of big chains that serve the same menu and call it their “signature”. Give me a greasy spoon or a hip local place that serves up kimchi tacos. Enough with the chicken fingers already.
This can be a challenge, though, when I just need to grab a quick sandwich to go. Sit down diners, like the Twig N Leaf, are all over Louisville. But a quick sandwich to go sometimes seems elusive.
So the other day when I was driving around and my stomach started to growl, I stopped in to Paul’s Fruit Market and Deli and ordered a sandwich. They offered Panini, subs, wraps, and sandwiches, all of which came with chips or fruit and a pickle for $6.99 ($5.99 for a wrap). It’s a little more than you would normally pay for a drive-thru burger, but you won’t regret it afterward.
I ordered a Cuban Panini. I stood at the deli while I waited for my sandwich and checked out their offerings for take-home meals. There were pans of shepherd’s pie, mac and cheese, meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and all the stuff you need to feed your family a nutritious meal when you just don’t have the time to cook.
The sandwiches included everything from vegetarian to New Yorker Panini, grilled Reuben, club, turkey wrap, and chicken Caesar wrap, just to name a few. My sandwich was done quickly and they wrapped it well so that I didn’t get too messy eating it in the car.
