After the Saturday dinner service this weekend Park Place and Browning’s went out of business. The East Main restaurants (at Slugger Field) had received accolades and fans but the current economic realities were too much for them to overcome.

Susan Friedrich, general manager for both restaurants said in a press release "Although we have seen a steady increase in business, we feel the current state of our national economy will prove to prohibit the sustainability of our success. We are extremely grateful to all of our supporters and will miss them at our tables."

It’s shame to see two downtown restaurants go down. Their closures, particularly after the recent closing of Primo and Market on Market, certainly puts a damper on the downtown dining scene. Since it was only a couple weeks ago that I told you about new menu additions at Park Place I’m a little shocked at how quickly the demise came about. I wonder if a serious markup on supplies, ingredients came down or something like that. I suspect we’ll never know but I am curious and sad to lose two of Louisville’s independent restaurants.
