Papa Johns Customer Receipt - Lady Chinky Eyes

Louisville based restaurant and the third largest take-out and pizza delivery chain in the United States, Papa John's, recently apologized to customer, Minhee Cho, after a cashier wrote "lady chinky eyes' on her receipt. She went for a slice of pie and left with a side of racism.

Following the incident, Minhee (@mintymin), took to Twitter and tweeted,

"Hey @PapaJohns just FYI my name isn't "lady chinky eyes" http://twitpic.com/84epmb".

The image has been viewed more than 190,000 times since she originally tweeted it on January 7th.

“I was very surprised because the lady that was serving me was super nice and we joked and it seemed super normal,” said Cho, an uptown New York resident [via NY DailyNews].

Following the unfortunate incident and after it went viral, Papa John's (@PapaJohns) tweeted a formal apology stating,

"We are very upset by recent receipt issue in New York & sincerely apologize to our customer. Franchise employee involved is being terminated"

Though Papa John's apologized via Facebook and Twitter, it is a bit odd that they didn't take to a formal press release. On Facebook, the franchise stated the following:

"We were extremely concerned to learn of the receipt issue in New York. This act goes against our company values, and we've confirmed with the franchisee that this matter was addressed immediately and that the employee is being terminated. We are truly sorry for this customer's experience."

I suppose the upside to this Papa John's public relations fiasco is that a New York resident preferred a slice of Papa John's over the infamously known New York style pizza.

Cho was noted saying, “I wasn’t super angry about it,” she said. “I (just) can’t believe this happened in this day and age.”
