John “Papa” Schattner’s second restaurant chain, Calistoga Bakery Cafe, will be opening two Louisville locations this fall including one in the new UofL Health Care Outpatient Center downtown. The multidisciplinary medical center at 401 Chestnut Street is almost like a one stop shop for outpatient medical care. Throw in the new Calistoga Artisan Sandwiches and it’s got lunch covered as well.
Since we haven’t actually seen a Calistoga Cafe yet I’m going to quote the press release so we have an idea of what to expect:
“Calistoga is known for upscale artisan sandwiches and “pressatas,” which is Italian for sandwiches stuffed with fresh ingredients and pressed on a hot grill. Favorites include the Turkey Artichoke Pressata made with smoked turkey, spinach artichoke spread, Asiago-parmesan cheese, caramelized onions and tomato, on herb focaccia and the Russian River Chicken Sandwich which is grilled chicken breast, black forest ham, melted Swiss and creamy pesto aioli served on herb focaccia.”
Though the full cafe won’t open until later in the fall an espresso bar is already open in UofL Health Care Outpatient Center. This is of course awesome because downtown is decidedly not caffeinated enough.
Sadly though the espresso bar is only open weekdays leaving downtown an almost latte-free zone on weekends.
When the cafe does open in addition to food and beverages it will also be serving up free wifi.
I think I like this place already.
