You would have thought spring had sprung at the Speed Museum last Saturday night for the 39th annual Speed Art Museum Ball. The foyer was lit with coral tinted spotlights, casting a warm and welcoming hue for attendees, which hinted at brighter days to come. The greenery and flowers that hung from the ceiling were a nod to Monet’s garden in Giverny as the theme was built around the museum’s current Impressionist exhibition. Gorgeous flower arrangements burst from every corner and tabletop kick-starting the spring season a little early with an array of warm colors.
In this season of unpredictability, be it weather or financial, the Speed Museum continues to remain firmly planted as an establishment of art and culture. In January, the Speed was awarded re-accreditation from the American Association of Museums (AAM), which is the highest national recognition achievable by an American Museum. The Speed Ball was in perfect timing to celebrate this achievement.
The Speed Ball is also the Museum’s largest fundraiser with proceeds directly supporting the many programs and outreach activities that go on throughout the year. The numbers are still out on exactly how much was raised, but should be determined within the next few months.
This was the last Ball to be held at the Museum before they close for renovations later this year, but have no fear, the Ball will still go on! The dates have already been chosen for the next three years, so ladies and gents, it’s never too early to start shopping for next years outfit.
