You may have gone to the movie theater hundreds of times and never noticed that Cinemark plays live performances of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City right here in Louisville. Tomorrow night be sure to see a performance of Puccini’s
La Bohème
, perhaps the most popular opera in the world and certainly one of the most transfixing.

Bohème
’s
libretto is based on Henri Murger’s novel,
La vie de bohème
, a collection of vignettes that portray young bohemians living in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 1840s. The work premiered in 1896 and has since enjoyed a cultural influence unlike anything else. There have been numerous adaptations including the recent film,
Moulin Rouge!
and musical
Rent
.
This Met broadcast is of Franco
Zeffirelli’s
production and is conducted by Stefano
Ranzani
. It also features an all-star cast with
Vittorio
Grigolo
as
Rodolfo
, Anita
Hartig
as
Mimì
and
Massimo
Cavalletti
as Marcello.
