In the increasingly digital-music world we live in it, is refreshing to know that bands like Old Crow Medicine Show (OCMS) are still topping US Bluegrass charts, with real instruments, landing gold hits and have been doing so far more than you probably know. Since 2001, they have nearly topped those charts with an atypical mix of old time bluegrass, alt-country, and folk. To me it sounds like unadulterated classic Americana and I personally don’t get down on ‘contemporary country’ music. The US Country charts have actually seen their shadow too, so that just goes to show you how deep my genius runs in the understanding of such statistics.
Lately, we’ve been truly blessed with local shows comprising of other similar genre rising stars Trampled by Turtles, legendary Ralph Stanley, and of course that curiously interesting blend of national and local acts at the annual Forecastle Festival, but OCMS is really something worth stealing your co-workers' Visa for. Shockingly it’s not sold out so shame on you Louisvillians! Look, I get that everyone is probably a bit concert poor lately after Bieber, oh I mean Mumford & Sons, tickets were announced but if you miss OCMS at The Palace then I hope your actual mama does rock ya, upside the head so you get some sense that is.
