    Bit to Do

Not too cool for the pool: dive right in to movies this winter

Imagine your kids’ surprise when you tell them this Friday night, "Go get your swimsuits on! We're going to the pool!" They might think you're crazy, but chances are they'll also think you're awesome.

Beginning this Friday, November 16 and continuing on December 27 and January 3, the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center at 201 Reservoir Road in Crescent Hill will host your family for wintertime "Dive-in." So while the temperatures plummet outside, your family can pretend it's summertime inside and swim in the 82-degree heated pool. What a great way to ensure that those swim lessons you paid for last summer don't go to waste over the winter!

November 16, 7:00 pm- The Polar Express

This 2004 film about a young boy's magical journey to the North Pole on Christmas Eve has become a classic. I've heard of holiday train trips loaded up with PJ-clad children, but I've never heard of viewing it with noodle-clutching kids in bikinis and swim trunks. Sounds like a terrific Christmastime switcheroo that your kids will find delightful. Plus, you can enjoy free hot cocoa and a cookie and the first 100 children under twelve will receive a special gift.

    Looking ahead…

    December 27, 6:30 pm- Brave

Watch Merida’s adventures in Disney-Pixar’s summer blockbuster Brave for an unexpected twist on a post-Christmas night.

January 3, 6:30 pm- The Pirates! Band of Misfits

Perhaps make this 2012 film about Black Bellamy, Cutlass Liz, and Pirate Captain’s battle for the Pirate of the Year award a family night to celebrate back-to-school and a happy new year.

    About Anna Frye

After living in Chicago, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Colorado, my husband and I made our (hopefully? probably?) final move back to Louisville, where I was born and raised. Ahhh...it's nice to be home. Now I'm busy making sure my three little ones learn to love the quirks and traditions of their new hometown: Kentucky Derby Festival, no school on Oaks Day, grits and hot browns (not necessarily together), monograms, parks, festivals, and even our seasonal allergies.
