Look fellas, I hear ya’…you can play tough.  You can act manly all you want to.  You can pretend that all of that testosterone coursing through your veins prevents you from cracking a smile when you hear the refrain from “Hangin’ Tough” or “The Right Stuff” or “Step by Step” or “Please Don’t Go Girl.”  But your secret is out. We all know, and I’ll be the first to admit that when I was a boy I dug the New Kids. Yes, I’ve seen them three times in concert, and yes their concert at KFC Yum! Center on Sunday is going to be a-freaking-mazing.  And don’t even try and act like you have the “cool” girlfriend that doesn’t even wanna go to crap like that – because no you don’t and yes she does.

Buy her a ticket and you will flush in brownie points for the next several months (ok, let’s be honest, it’ll probably only buy you a couple of days, but something is better than nothing).

The original boy band is about to roll through town, still rockin’ their entire original line-up of Jordan, Joey, Danny, Donnie, and Jon.  They’ll be tearing through all of your hits from late 80’s and early 90’s when there was no one on the charts that could remotely compete with them.  Millions of albums, thousands of shows, and dozens of movies later – the guys are still making music, hitting the road, and taking it all to their fans on a regular basis – that has to be commended.

This time around they are bringing a few nostalgia acts with them that will make sure it’s an evening of 90’s splendor with T.L.C. (or is it just T.C. now?  I’m not sure) and Mr. St. Louis himself, kickin’ it with Air Force One and speaking Country Grammar – the most sing-songy of all rappers, the one and only Nelly is going to be on-hand, as well.

So man up and go check out some New Kids on the Block – sing like no one’s listening, dance like no one’s watching, and pretend that no one is pointing.  New Kids on the Block with T.L.C. and Nelly will be at KFC Yum! Center Sunday June 7th – the show starts at 7:00 PM and tickets are available from 17 - 115 dollars.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
