Jan. 18-Feb. 5. Turkish-American actress Aysan Celik performs 9 Parts of Desire, a one-woman play written by Heather Raffo, the daughter of an Iraqi father and American mother. Roffo’s inspiration for the play came while on a 1993 trip to Iraq, when she paid a visit to the Saddam Art Center and was moved by a painting of a nude woman clinging to a barren tree. For years the painting haunted her, compelling her to contemplate what it meant to be a woman of Iraq. Over the next decade she began spending time with several Iraqi woman both in the homeland and in America and London. The result is a play that tells the story of nine interconnected Iraqi women. The New Yorker has lauded the play as “an example of how art can remake the world and eloquently name pain.” $20-$30. Times Vary. Actors Theatre. 584-1205.
