New2Lou, a social organization that helps transplants “meet people, try new places and connect to the community,” will meet tonight at Theater Square Marketplace at 5:30 p.m.  Transplants and locals are invited to mingle in one of Louisville’s newest hotspots, located at 651 S Fourth Street.

Stacey Servo, a nearly 6-year resident of Louisville who started the organization in 2009 with her husband, describes New2Lou as a “strictly social” organization.  The goal, she says, is “creating connections, and giving groups of people social opportunities to connect.”

Recent efforts include New2Lou.com, which launched this year offering site visitors a chance to learn more about the organization, as well as ways to connect with others in the area.  The website offers information about various professional and sports organizations, volunteer opportunities, as well as a list of regular and upcoming events.  The "Discover" tab is dedicated to neighborhoods, offering basic summaries and a corresponding map.  According to Stacey, this section will eventually include content such as local testimonies and “walkability” information.  Stacey admits that for many new Louisvillians, knowing where to live can be the biggest challenge.

Visitors to the site can also join a mailing list to receive regular updates on upcoming events in the area.  New2Lou can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, and Meetup.

Hosting between 100-150 people at each event, New2Lou attracts an array of newbies from all areas of town.  Stacey says many event attendees are young professionals that have moved to Louisville to work at businesses such as Humana, General Electric, Yum! Brands, Brown-Forman, and Zappos.  As Louisville prospers, Stacey anticipates a consistent arrival of new residents.

“We’ll be here to connect them when they get here,” she said.
