Louisville is going to be getting a lot of love this tournament season on and off the court.

Capital One just released a new commercial that features Samuel L. Jackson, Charles Barkley, and Spike Lee driving around and arguing over how to correctly pronounce the word “Louisville.”  Which, if you’re reading this you well know, is an argument that even those of us that live in Louisville have yet to fully resolve, and it’s kind of funny watching these three clearly non-Louisvillians try and figure out, as well.  The argument consists of the trio making exaggerated and mumbled attempts at the word (Loo-uh-vul, Loo-vul, Looooeyville), before all finally agreeing simply on “Da’ Ville,” it’s pretty hilarious for a quick laugh.

I’m sure it’s universally funny, I think the ad is probably a little extra funny to real Louisvillians who have been engaged in a similar conversation with outsiders and locals alike, more time than we care to count.  This is a follow-up to a similar Capital One ad these three did about the pronunciation of Indianapolis, where The Final Four will be played this year.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
