No monumental upsets on the fourth day of the men's NCAA Tournament, but there were still a few surprises.
Here is a quick look at some of the important numbers that came out of the final day of the tournament's second round.
1 - No. 1 seeds Syracuse and Duke posted convincing victories on their way to the Sweet 16 following fellow No. 1 Kentucky, but not following in the footsteps of tournament top seed Kansas, which was upset by Northern Iowa the previous day.
2 - Points that separated the winning team and losing team in the two most exciting games of Sunday as Michigan State beat Maryland 85-83 and Purdue squeaked by Texas A&M 63-61. The Spartans got a buzzer-beating three-pointer from reserve Korie Lucious, who was filling in for injured standout Kalin Lucas, to beat the Terrapins in a thrilling finish. Meanwhile Chris Kramer's driving layup gave the Boilermakers an overtime win over the Aggies and a somewhat surprising trip to the Sweet 16 after losing star Robbie Hummel late in the season.
3 - Pittsburgh was the third No. 3 seed in this tournament to go down today, losing to sixth-seeded Xavier by (surprise!) three points.
9 - The number of rebounds and assists, to along with 24 points, by the likely national player of the year, Ohio State's Evan Turner. With top-seed Kansas, as well as No. 3 seed Georgetown and No. 4 seed Maryland, out of the picture the Buckeyes are the big favorite in the Midwest Region.
18 - The surprising victory margin by 12th-seeded Cornell in its 87-69 upset of No. 4 seed Wisconsin in Jacksonville, Fla. The Big Red proved that Ivy Leaguers can play ball too in the first weekend of the Big Dance. With its win over the Badgers, on the heels of its first-round upset of No. 5 seed Temple, Cornell moves into the Sweet 16 to face (gulp!) Kentucky.
19 - Points scored by West Virginia senior forward Da'Sean Butler in the first 20 minutes of the Mountaineers' 68-59 win over 10th-seeded Missouri. He finished with 28 as WVU earned a date with Washington in the Sweet 16 with a potential showdown against UK in the Elite Eight.
20 - Points scored by Duke point guard Nolan Smith in the Blue Devils' 68-53 win over eighth-seeded California in Jacksonville, Fla. Anyone think the University of Louisville could've used the son of former Cardinals' standout Derek Smith this season?
