Louisville is brimming with free outdoor entertainment for the whole family, every day of the week. So grab your lawn chair, your bug spray, and your kids, and get out and do something.
The RiverStage in Jeffersonville, IN has free concerts on the Ohio every Friday night (with a few exceptions) at 7pm as part of their Rolling out the Weekend Concert Series. Local bands ranging from the Wulfe Brothers and the Louisville Crashers to The Monarchs and The Rumors cover a broad range of musical genres. This Friday, check out Thumper and the Plaid Rabbits as they float onstage.
The RiverStage also entertains on Saturday nights with their Twilight Cinema. Free family movies (including Shrek Forever After on June 11th) are shown on their jumbo screen. Check the calendar for complete details; movies begin at dark.
Friday nights bring toe-tapping tunes to Warder Park in Jeffersonville (corner of Court Ave. and Spring Street) for the Concerts in the Park series. These downtown boogie sessions begin at 7:30 and highlight that Big Band sound.
Don’t want to cross the bridge? Cherokee Triangle’s summer concert series is underway as well. Find live music every Sunday from 7-9pm through Labor Day. This Sunday, June 12th features King Sonic, a local band self-described as “jumpabillyboogieblues.” Concerts are held at Willow Park (corner of Cherokee Parkway and Willow Ave). Bring canned goods or toiletries to support a local food bank.
Opening this Tuesday, June 7th, is the 51st season of Shakespeare in Central Park, produced by Kentucky Shakespeare. Though the company has recently gone through a myriad of changes and is no longer known as “The Festival,” this Louisville icon is a tradition for many families. This year, check out The Complete Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged) which runs June 7-26. Come back for As You Like It June 28-July 10. The preshow begins at 7:30 and the curtain goes up at 8:30 Tuesday through Sunday nights.
