Most listeners of Mason Jennings’ albums find their way to his music through other fans. Like musicians Jack Johnson and Ben Harper, the Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter’s word-of-mouth following is built on adept guitar playing coupled with lyrical eloquence. Not to worry — these aren’t one-trick songs that induce the folk-rock sway seen at many solo shows. Jennings repertoire of ruminating rock songs and contemplative ballads allows him to tread among many musical classifications. Teddy Thompson, son of British folk-rockers Richard and Linda Thompson, will open the show. Fans of Rufus Wainwright (Thompson has made appearances on several of his albums) will dig the singer’s observant lyrics and intimate and inviting voice. Tickets are $12 in advance at ear X-tacy or www.ticketweb.com and $14 on the day of the show. 9 p.m. Headliners, 1386 Lexington Road. 584-8088.
