She's a movie star, a devoted University of Kentucky basketball fan, and this year Ashley Judd will be the honorary chairperson of the ninth annual Mint Jubilee black-tie fund-raiser, which will be held on Derby Eve, Friday, May 6.

The gala will benefit the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville and the Louisville chapter of Gilda's Club, a national organization founded in memory of actress Gilda Radner that assists cancer patients and their families.

"For nine years, the Mint Jubilee has been dedicated to supporting causes that benefit cancer research and education," said Tonya York Dees, chairperson of the event, at a Mint Jubilee press conference Feb. 4 at the Galt House Hotel & Suites.

Dees hopes the event, which will be held at the recently renovated Galt House for the first time, will raise $200,000, and she expects 1,200 people to attend, including jockeys who will be riding in the Kentucky Derby the next day.

"You will not only have a great time, but you also will be partying with a purpose," said Chris McCarron, a two-time Derby winner and one of the jockeys set to attend.

The Mint Jubilee will feature a cocktail reception, a silent auction, dinner and dancing. The event's new presenting sponsor is Southern Wine and Spirits.

Judd, a Kentucky native, and other film and TV stars are planning to attend.
