'Tis the season. It's Fall. It's October. Halloween is Thursday! This is very exciting to a lot of people, and while I appreciate free candy as much as anybody, I never really understood this strange need to dress up as all sorts of strange things. Truth be told, it makes me vaguely uncomfortable. Yes: if you invite me to a Halloween party, I'll be that lame guy who doesn't dress up, or says he's “come as myself.” Masks, forget about it. That weird rubber smell, I don't know how people can stand it. And who the hell actually likes candy corn? That stuff is weird and gross. (Keep in mind I'm apparently the only person in the world who likes Circus Peanuts, that spongy orange-pink candy. I love 'em, I can't get enough.) But here we are, and come Thursday there will be all sorts of little monsters walking around (although, really, you don't see a lot of people dressed as monsters anymore, it's mostly pop culture icons [of the non-monster variety], but we'll ignore that for the time being).
The point? The final film in Baxter Avenue Theater's October series of midnight monster movies, featuring a midnight screening of the classic The Monster Squad tomorrow, Saturday. It's the 1980s and Count Dracula has returned from the grave to take over the world with the help of Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Wolf Man, and the Gill Man! It's up to a plucky bunch of pre-teens to stop their dastardly plans and save the world!
Baxter Avenue Theater is located at 1250 Bardstown Road. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Baxter Avenue Theater website.
