The James Bond movies are one of the longest-running film series. And who can blame them? Can we really get tired of the suave secret agent and all the hijinks he gets up to with dastardly villains and beautiful ladies and impossible gadgets? I submit that we cannot! In fact, the next film, twenty-third in the series, is scheduled to open this upcoming October; Daniel Craig reprises his role as 007 in “Skyfall,” wherein he takes on super-sexy villain Javier Bardem (yes, I say this as a heterosexual married man; that’s how sexy he is).
In the meantime, Baxter Avenue Theater presents an opportunity to see one of the classics on the big screen with a midnight showing of “The Man with the Golden Gun.” In this, the ninth film of the series, Bond has been targeted by Francisco Scaramanga, “the world’s most expensive assassin,” and must find a way to bring him down.
Acting personnel is of the utmost importance in any Bond film. There are several important roles to be filled: the villain, the henchman, the Bond girl, and, of course, Bond himself. Roger Moore takes on the role of 007, and his “love” interest is Mary Goodnight, played by Britt Ekland. The role of Scaramanga is played by none other than the great Christopher Lee, and his henchman, Nick Nack, is played by Herve Villechaize (Tattoo from “Fantasy Island”). Bernard Lee and Desmond Llewelyn reprise their roles as M and Q, respectively.
“The Man with the Golden Gun” plays at Baxter Avenue Theater at midnight tomorrow, Saturday, February 25. Baxter Avenue Theater is located at 1250 Bardstown Road. More information about the theater, as well as advance ticket sales, can be found at the website.
