The first stop for the “50 to 1” group is Wednesday evening, April 16, at Louisville Slugger Field (Witherspoon entrance, 401 E. Main Street) before the Bats take on the Indianapolis Indians. Fans can meet actor Skeet Ulrich, who plays Woolley, actor Todd Lowe, who plays Kelly, award-winning producer Jim Wilson, and co-writer Faith Conroy at Louisville Slugger Field from 4-7:30 p.m.
The Kentucky Derby Museum will host a meet-and-greet and poster signing with members of the film and the real Kentucky Derby winning team on Thursday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. Also in attendance until 4 p.m. is the star of the story, Mine That Bird. As fans meet the people of the story in the museum’s back courtyard, the Kentucky Derby winner will oversee it all from the museum’s adjacent courtyard stable area.
The Kentucky Derby Museum interviewed Skeet Ulrich, who plays trainer Chip Woolley, when the cast filmed portions of the movie at the track last year.
After Thursday’s event, Mine That Bird will ship to Keeneland in Lexington, Ky. and will be joined by Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide in the sales pavilion’s walking circle prior to “It’s My Derby” that will be held Friday evening.
The film, which has had a slow roll-out since it premiered in New Mexico in March, opens in local theaters Friday. In Louisville, it can be seen at Cinemark Tinseltown (4400 Towne Center Drive) and Stonybrook 20+ IMAX (2745 S. Hurstbourne Pkwy.). It can also been seen in Indiana at River Falls Stadium 12 (951 E. Lewis & Clark Pkwy.) and New Albany Stadium 16 (300 Professional Court). For a complete listing of theaters outside Louisville and Southern Indiana, visit the “50 to 1” Facebook page.
