About a month ago, Highlands Tap Room created the “Marriage Celebration” event - a “Mother Of All Wedding Parties” to be held after the anticipated Supreme Court decision to legalize gay marriage. The party was originally, according to Will Hardesty  for “anyone who wanted to show up” and celebrate a victory or expression of defiance in light of the ruling.

The event got some serious attention very quickly. “The response came as a surprise to us,” says Hardesty. After over 100 people said they would be attending the event, Tap Room decided to take the party to the next viable level, a public event.

“City government has been terrific and supportive. Councilmen Owens has helped us get in touch with the right people,” says Hardesty. Thanks to a supportive city and now more than 600 people “going” to the event, Tap Room has made the event public which includes a street closure, live music, licensed ministers to officiate (all you need is a marriage license!) and a free photography service.

Everyone is welcome to the event that will prospectively celebrate our progression into equality. The event is set to take place June 30th from 5:30 to midnight. For more information check out the event page here
