I am a regular user of public transportation. Living in the belly of the beast as I do, it is quite easy for me to navigate Louisville’s downtown and surrounding boroughs via bus. My morning commute rarely involves a car, and I relish my daily rides for both the economical value and the (decidedly strange) free entertainment only my fellow TARC passengers can provide. But the unintentional sideshow antics of classic bus-stop “characters” is not the only fun Louisville’s public transport can dish out. As June comes to a jolly close (triple digit heat is totally awesome), hip Louisvillians will brave the swamp and tame the Toonerville trolleys tonight as the F.A.T. Trolley Hop gets underway with a smorgasbord of local food, music, art and shopping. Frankfort Avenue’s new and used bookstore, A Reader’s Corner, will get in on the action as well with refreshment, music and, of course, plenty of good reads.
Held on the final Friday of each month, the Frankfort Avenue shindig gives the area's many local businesses a chance to show off their goods while patrons browse the streets and enjoy the treats with the aid of those friendly, little trolleys. With most businesses operating on extended hours and hosting various special deals and entertainment, the Trolley Hop is an easy way to enjoy a colorful display of Louisville’s best independent art, shopping and dining without breaking open your piggy bank – free parking doesn’t hurt, either.
A Reader’s Corner Bookstore hits the map tonight and opens its doors to hungry readers ready for respite from the heat. Starting at 6pm, A Reader’s Corner will offer free refreshments along with their usual gamut of bargain books and live musical entertainment from saxophone player Danny O’Day starting at 7pm. The Great Baldini and Mistress Ember will also be in attendance for a cooling blast of wit and intrigue. Grab a rocking chair, bring the sunglasses and get your Hopping shoes polished for a leisurely night of Frankfort Avenue’s best at A Reader’s Corner.
A Reader’s Corner Bookstore is located at 2044 Frankfort Avenue.
