Louisville Waterfront Park's original Children's Play Area (just east of the Harbor Lawn at the end of the Orange parking lot) will reopen on April 1. The playground was closed in late October for complete renovation.
The Children's Playground opened in 1997 and was one of the park's first areas to be completed. Partially funded by the Junior League of Louisville, the playground immediately became a fun and crowded destination for families, school groups, and summer camp programs, and it maintained its popularity even after the opening of the Adventure Playground in Waterfront Park's second phase.
Patches and repairs had been done over the years, but this was the first complete overhaul. Renovations include an all new rubber play surface, painting and staining of play structures, replacement of worn equipment, new landscaping, and turf renovation.
The Adventure Playground (near Tumbleweed) was not affected by construction and remains open for use. After the original playground reopens, both playgrounds will remain open year-round.
Waterfront Park is open 365 days per year from 6:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m.
