    The Louisville Youth Orchestra’s Symphony Orchestra, Repertory Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble will present a performance on Sunday, March 15, 2009 as part of its 50th Anniversary Season – “The Next Fifty Years: Blinded by the Light…” (Part I).  This concert will feature two newly commissioned works – Chasing Light… by Joseph Schwantner and Ruby and Gold by Jason Thompson, an LYO alum.The Louisville Youth Orchestra’s performance of Joseph Schwantner’s Chasing Light… is part of Ford Made in America, a partnership program of the League of American Orchestras and Meet The Composer.

    Ford Made in America is made possible by Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company.

    Major support is also provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional funding from The Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Francis Goelet Charitable Lead Trusts, and The Amphion Foundation.

    Ruby and Gold by Jason Thompson was commissioned by the Louisville Youth Orchestra in commemoration of its 50th Anniversary Season.

    The performance will begin at 3:00 pm at the Brown Theatre located at 315 West Broadway.  Ticket prices are $12.50 for adults, $10.00 for senior citizens (60+), $5.00 for students from six through age 21 and free for children six and younger.  Tickets may be purchased by calling 584-7777 or at the door.

    The Louisville Youth Orchestra offers instruction for orchestral players ranging from beginners to pre-professionals.  Any student under age 21 who plays an orchestral instrument is welcome to audition for the LYO.  To apply for admission contact Melody Welsh-Buchholz at 502-896-1851 or log on to our website at www.lyo.org.
