My mom's birthday is coming up soon and I was in need of a gift. I wanted to get something from Louisville that she would really like and that I could ship to New York for her.
I did some internet searching and decided to check out Louisville Stoneware on Broadway. I had never been before and I was pleasantly surprised by the array of pottery items. They had tons of different shapes and sizes of plates, bowls, pitchers, spoon rests, etc. (you name it and they made it). The variety of shapes was great, but even better than that was the variety of patterns/colors. They really had something for everyone; florals, asian-inspired, Kentucky Derby, Fleur de Lis, and then plain colors as well.
I decided on a blue pitcher that had been created a spinning pottery wheel. There are delicate variations in the shades of blue where you can actually see the spinning marks. It's beautiful. The best part of all is that it cost me $67 with shipping. They held the tax since it was being shipped out of state and had me write a personalized note to accompany the pitcher. They use spray foam to ship the items and have never had anything break to their knowledge. It was a one stop shop for a unique Louisville birthday gift.
