    • "Posters are going up at the 23 rest areas and welcome centers across the state to highlight healthy food choices for travelers. The effort will make Kentucky the first state in the nation to promote healthier food options at state-operated vending sites, said state Education and Workforce Development Secretary Joseph U. Meyer at a Capitol news conference Wednesday." [Bluegrass Politics]
    • "Kentucky prosecutor says a reinvestigation into a 1996 murder is "moving in the direction" of exonerating a man in prison for the last 14 years but may not be complete for weeks or months. Jefferson County Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Stengel said on Wednesday that DNA tests are pending in the case of 49-year-old Kerry Porter, who has proclaimed his innocence in the Dec. 27, 1996, shooting death of 35-year-old Tyrone Camp in Louisville." • "The University of Kentucky Athletic Department is again at odds with the school’s newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel. A Kernel reporter called two walk-on basketball players to confirm they were joining the team. Afterward, he reportedly sought further comment, which UK officials say violates the school media guide. It says all requests for comments from players should go through the school’s public relations staff to prevent players from being bombarded by questions. The reporter was subsequently banned from an interview session with players. The move prompted the Associated Press Sports Editors to say UK treated the reporter unfairly." [WFPL]
    • "Attendance at the Kentucky State Fair increased during the 11-day event this year, compared with 2010. The annual summertime event, which is billed as a unique convergence of Kentucky music, art, culture, agriculture and entertainment, was held Aug.18-28 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky.
The Fair drew 605,565 people, up slightly from last year's count of 602,897 attendees. The total was the second highest in five years and surpassed 600,000 attendees for the third consecutive year." [WHAS11]
