We see you appreciate a good vintage. But there comes a time to try something new. Click here to head over to the redesigned Louisville.com. It's where you'll find all of our latest work. And plenty of the good ol' stuff, too, looking better than ever.

    The Kentucky Exposition Center.

Based on my experience at the 2008 State Fair of Texas, the only state fair I've ever attended, here's what I expect to see:

    • adult-onset diabetes sufferers gobbling up fried butter, water, sugar, salt, eggs, flour, oil, and more white powder than the mortician found in Billy Mays, even if the end product is light and fluffy
    • little fat kids clad in authentic game day sports jerseys, which probably cost more than their parents spent on books for them this year, clamoring for $20 to try and win a stuffed animal they could've bought outright elsewhere for $4
    • 8-year-old girls parading around bulls that they raised since weaning to a bunch of slobbering old coots who are either going to slaughter or electronically stimulate them ("them" being the bulls)

Will those scenes hold true for the Kentucky State Fair?

Or will my visit just demonstrate (once again) that everything is bigger and crappier in Texas?

    Check back next week.
