Louisville Magazine's final launch party of 2012 turns it up to 11 at The Palace

Wednesday evening paid witness to the final Louisville Magazine launch party of the year, held under the majestic art and architecture of The Louisville Palace on Fourth Street. The launch party was in honor of the December 2012 “Music Issue” of the magazine, featuring pieces ranging from a photo essay of studio god Kevin Ratterman – whose mug graces the front cover – and an oral history of Louisville’s punk scene, to a 30-song playlist of songs by local artists and an abridged timeline of the city’s music history winding through it all. Thus, the Palace was the perfect place to celebrate this issue’s launch.

Inside the historical survivor of Downtown Louisville’s urban renewal, attendees could enter their name to be drawn for a free one-year subscription to the magazine, donate non-perishable items and/or cash to the Louisville Central Community Center’s “Christmas Cheer” Program, pick up a copy of Louisville Magazine’s latest and greatest, then enter for a drawing at the French Lick Resort table; the resort – whose West Baden Springs location will host the Louisville Concours d’Elegance in October 2013 – was the main sponsor of the December 2012 launch party.

Once past the front lobby, guests partook in hors d’ouerves provided by Spectrum Concessions on 625 S. Fourth St., along with drink specials in the bar area next to the main lobby. Those who did attend also had an opportunity to meet Louisville Magazine publisher Dan Crutcher, editor Kane Webb, as well as many others from the magazine. And of course, being that this was the issue to celebrate Louisville’s music scene, cover band Kudmani played an hour-long set of covers ranging from Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” – which sounds great mashed-up against Steely Dan’s “Do It Again,” by the way (hint-hint) – to Journey’s “Don’t Stop (Believin’).”

The next launch party will be at the Bourbon Barrel Loft of the Bluegrass Brewing Company on Third and Main on Jan. 3, 2013.

For more information or to give to the “Christmas Cheer” Program, visit the Louisville Central Community Center at 1300 W. Muhammad Ali Bvld., online at www.lcccnews.org, or call 502-583-8822.
