Louisville Entrepreneur Profiles - LouisvilleFamilyFun.net [Business]

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Stephanie White, another transplant to our fair city, to discuss her business venture, LouisvilleFamilyFun.net.  This former teacher and her family moved here from North Carolina in the Fall of 2009 after the economic downturn began affecting the company that her husband was an employee with.  He was formerly of Lexington, and had family in that area, but they decided to try out a little larger city just as a shield against any further economic downtrend; so Louisville it was.  While in North Carolina Stephanie had become a stay-at-home mom and had really gotten immersed in that world of networking with other moms about what to do, where to go, play dates, etc., and when she arrived here said that she just hit the ground running checking out as many ways as she could to meet up with other moms.

During a chance discussion with a mom during a play date, Stephanie discovered that she kept a detailed Google Calendar of things going on around the city for kids.  This discussion progressed from them working on the calendar together to just creating a full-blown website, and LouisvilleFamilyFun.net was born.  Launched in December of 2009, the site was part blog and part calendar to allow for both reviews and upcoming events.  After a lot of word-of-mouth, and some social networking, Stephanie was approached nine months later about advertising on the site, and it has just grown from there.  Now, a little over two years later, Stephanie has contributing free-lance writers, two sponsorship managers who sell ad space, and she is handling growing the site even further.

One of the things I really liked about Stephanie is her energy and enthusiasm.  She very much sees herself as an advocate for local parents and works hard to get deals, coupons, discounts, etc., for local parents, as well as trying to make sure that they are never for want of something to do with the kids.  With the tremendous success she has been having with the site, Stephanie said that this year she is looking to work with more local charities on giving back to the community, another sign of her love of her adopted city.  If you have children, or have friends who do, I highly suggest you check out what Stephanie has going on because it's just going to keep getting bigger and better.
