Mikaela and Danny were married at Hermitage Farm on June 2, 2018. Read on to hear about their wedding day.

Ages: Mikaela is 29. Danny is 30.

Occupations: Mikaela is the marketing director at the commercial real estate firm Childress Klein. Danny is a strategic account manager for US Energy Recovery.

How they met: “Both Danny and I moved to Oklahoma City for our careers following college” — she’s from Kentucky, he’s from Arizona — “and we met each other at a young professional meet-up event.”

Engagement story: “We took a trip to Connecticut to visit my parents for Christmas in 2016 and went to NYC for a couple days before we flew out,” Mikaela says. “He proposed at the top of the Empire State Building as the sun was setting.”

    Number of wedding guests: 75.

Ceremony and reception: Hermitage Farm in Goshen.

Wedding theme: “I wanted it to have an upscale Kentucky vibe,” Mikaela says. “I wanted the wedding to just be unique and personal to us, which is why I was so hands-on with selecting all the vendors and doing sketches of what I had envisioned.”

    Entertainment: The Music City Sound.

Personal touches: “My horse Zammy came to the wedding and entertained guests all night by eating candy from his own table. After the wedding, I received videos and photos of people who were not remotely horse people with Twizzlers sticking out of their mouths, feeding him. He may have had the best time out of everyone who came. I also designed and water-colored every one of our invitations and joked that if anyone threw them out I would come and find them! Our guest book was a cartoon photo of us, our horse and dog that I got commissioned by artist Emily Cole and had people sign.”

First-dance song: “All On My Mind,” Anderson East.

The day in three words: “Surreal. Perfect. Unbelievable.”

Favorite part of the day: “Seeing all of our friends and family who traveled from all over the U.S., together in one place.”

One disagreement: “We had a conversation on why our dog couldn’t come. He is really a good dog, but it would have been a bit much for him.”

Really glad they: “Stayed true to ourselves. It was so easy to see what everyone else was doing on Pinterest and Instagram with seemingly unlimited budgets. I was also glad that we kept our wedding small and personal. We knew everyone there and, more importantly, were able to mingle and talk to everyone who came.”

Wish they would have: “Had a longer time to spend with friends and family. The end of the night comes so soon, and my parents flew out really early Sunday morning, along with some of my bridesmaids. The next day is like an abrupt return to reality.”

Advice: “Don’t be afraid to take risks and do something unexpected. This day goes by so fast, so sit back and soak it in.”
