Harvest Coffee & Cafe has big plans!

We live in an age where heartfelt commercials are common, encouraging us to do more and to effect more people in a positive way. Harvest Coffee & Café, located in Shelbyville, KY and just a single exit down I-64 from The Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass, is a company that’s working to make a difference in the community. They’re seeking your assistance and want you to be part of the growth! Check out their Kickstarter video:

Harvest Coffee and Café’s Facebook page describes the shop as, “A small café & coffee shop located in downtown Shelbyville. Our goal is to bring delicious and healthy grub and outstanding coffee to our community!” However, this description barely scratches the surface of the awesomeness happening at this place.

Despite the fact that Bill & Christy Walters are using residential equipment & cook up all sorts of creative masterpieces in a kitchen that was once a storage closet, they’re offering the residents & guests of Shelbyville delicious breakfast (like a ham & pepper jack scone or a gluten free blackberry muffin), lunch (such as, my favorite, the Rosemary Chicken Salad) and the occasional dinner, the ingredients of which are brought in from local farms and facilities such as Old Jock Family Farm, Swallow Rail Farm & Bluegrass Beef.

Driven by a love of food and of their customers, Wednesdays are a special day at Harvest Coffee & Café. They throw the prices out the window and let you pay what you can. If that’s not showing enough love, they also have a pay-it-forward wall filled with coffee sleeves, each with the description of who gets whatever it’s vouched for. My last visit I saw free coffee for a soon-to-be Dad, a free brownie to any member of the Shelby County Country Club and a free hot beverage to any elementary school teacher.

However, big plans are being made and they need you help to step up their game so they can increase their availability of goods and upgrade to commercial cooking equipment. Long term plans including adding gourmet to-go meals and the ability to cater large events.Check out their Kickstarter page for more information & to be a part of supporting community and small business!

    About Mary Slinger

When I’m not behind my camera taking photos, I’m behind my camera shooting video, playing fetch with my cat Chevy Chase, watching “White Christmas”, wearing my yellow rain coat and waiting for autumn so I can purchase my favorite cold apple cider drink from 6th & Main Coffee House. While I’m waiting for that, I drink peach tea.
