A view of downtown Louisville through the hills above Corydon Pike at Stone Mountain Chalets, Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Liquid Sound Studios on Corydon Pike in New Albany, Ind. (Photo by Brian Bohannon) After viewing the Greenville compound we followed Smith and Morrison to their 2,600 square foot chalets that out of town artists can stay in. Through an exclusive partnership with Stone Mountain Chalets, Liquid Sound Studios can offer clients accommodations in these chalets surrounded by one hundred and twenty acres of forest and a breathtaking view of downtown Louisville. Each chalet also comes with its own par 3 and gorgeous stone carvings created by David Ruckman. The view is particularly beautiful in the fall when all the leaves change colors.  From the chalets Liquid Sound Studios is located right down the hill and can be reached by golf cart.

We drove down the hill to Liquid Sound Studios where we reached a unique looking building that looked like it Used mermaid props await the next Forecastle Fest in the warehouse space of the 13,000-sq.-ft. building that is the future home of Liquid Sound Studios, Thursday, July 26, 2012, on Corydon Pike in New Albany, Ind. (Photo by Brian Bohannon) had been picked up from the Alamo and was relocated on Corydon Pike. The large 13,000 sq. ft. building is the home of Liquid Sound Studios. We entered the building through the back where we entered a storage area filled with props and staging from Forecastle. There were mermaid statues, netting, regal looking chairs, the tongue from the huge shark mouth, and lots and lots of plywood. Apparently vehicles are not supposed to drive on the grass of the Great Lawn so plywood boards had to be placed down anytime vehicles had to drive on it. Apparently this building is also the storage warehouse for the Forecastle Festival.  It was pretty cool to walk through and I’m sure it would be a gold mine for props if Krause ever needed any.

We then entered Krause’s film and photography studio on the first floor where we got to see the giant infinity wall for ourselves. He is also working on a green screen, some The Infinity Wallother walls, ceiling mounted swiveling cameras, boom lights, and a mobile computer system where you can immediately see the film and photography work during shoots. This studio will be the only one in the Midwest with a full fledge film sound stage and production.  A local salon also sponsors a dressing room for full hair and makeup. Like the Greenville location, the first floor will also have entertainment options for artists including basketball, pool table, and TV. Especially since Krause does a lot of senior portraits, this will give students options while waiting. As Krause put it, “Play before you shoot.” One of Krause’s first events at this location will be a fashion show in mid-August. Keep an eye on JPK Artography’s Facebook page for updates on that event.

We then made our way to the second floor to the sound recording area. The first room we entered was a loungeTyler Morrison poses in the upstairs rehearsal area as Wise "Doc" Smith entertains guests in the 13,000-sq.-ft. building that is the future home of Liquid Sound Studios, Thursday, July 26, 2012, on Corydon Pike in New Albany, Ind. (Photo by Brian Bohannon) that will have a kitchen and arcade. Then down the hall we came to the recording area. The whole building is wired for recording, and Wise Smith explained that any noise that they can record, including the trains that go by behind the building, will be used to create a database of sounds that can be utilized for any future film or music recordings. The second floor will have a number of different isolation booths named after different bands, a large live recording room, and a control room. All the equipment from Greenville will be moved here. The walls will be in pine in memoriam of the Pine Ridge Inn which the building was formerly known as. The upstairs used to be a roller rink and the down stairs had been used as a dance hall and as an indoor tennis court at some point.

Liquid Sound Studios is the ultimate artist Mecca and will create inspiration from the space itself. This is a one stop place for any individual or group needing recording, film, and/or photography needs. The quality of the product is also considered the best in the area.
