It seems like just yesterday the city was shoveling heaping piles of snow out of driveways and scraping thick layers of ice from car windshields. It’s hard to believe that Independence Day has already passed and we’re venturing into the last leg of summer. If you’re not quite ready to wrap up the summertime and start preparing for the fall just yet, there’s still one more summertime celebration you can get in on: France’s Bastille Day!

And we’re not talking about a day to honor the band of “Pompeii” fame. We’re talking about one of France’s most celebrated national holiday. Bastille Day, or in French, La Fete Nationale, meaning "the National Celebration", is celebrated every year on July 14th to mark the anniversary of the Storming of Bastille and the beginning of the French Revolution.

As a French national holiday, Bastille Day isn’t commonly celebrated in the United States, but that doesn’t mean we can’t jump on the bandwagon and start getting festive with it this year!

France has multiple Bastille Day celebrations all over the country with parades and fireworks commonly displayed. Here in Louisville, the best place to celebrate this foreign holiday is without a doubt at Brasserie Provence.

This local French restaurant will help you forget about the charcoal and hotdogs for this summer celebration with its Bastille Day dinner and drink specials. Try the delectable “Let Them Eat Steak” dinner special with a glass of delicious Chateau Mourgues du Gres Rose, both being offered up at amazingly low prices.

The Bastille Day specials will be served from 5 – 10 p.m. and guests can enjoy live music from French band, Frenchaxe from 5:30 – 9:30. It’s sure to become a celebration you’ll want to turn into a tradition.

Brasserie Provence is located at 150 North Hurstbourne Parkway in the Forum Shopping Center. To make a reservation, please call 502-883-3153 or visit its website.
