It is never too early for your youngster to learn the benefits of rocking and rolling! That's the philosophy of Wee Rock!, a Highlands-based business that offers group music classes for children and parents. As a testimony to their love for shaking and grooving, they're ringing in the New Year by celebrating the birth of the one and only King of Rock and Roll.... Elvis Presley!

On Saturday, January 7, the Second Annual Elvis Birthday Bash will kick off at noon at Mama's Hip, located at 1559 Bardstown Road. A sing-along of Elvis's best-loved hits will take place at 12:30, so brush up on your "Heartbreak Hotel" and your hip swings! Delicious peanut butter and banana sandwiches will be served throughout, and Elvis-themed games will be provided from 1 to 1:45, with rocking prizes for winners. Don't forget to snap a photo with a life-sized Elvis before the party winds down at 2. Parents and children who come dressed in full Elvis costume will receive an additional prize: a coupon for one free Wee Rock! drop-in class!

The mission of Wee Rock! (as defined by its founder, Louisville-based singer-songwriter Heidi Howe) is "to strengthen families and communities through music-making experiences that are affordable, fun, educational, and convenient." Weekly classes are provided by Wee Rock! at Mama's Hip, unless otherwise noted, and are intended for children aged 5 and younger, as well as their parents. They last 45 minutes and are offered in private ten-week sessions three times a year for $85 (drop-in classes cost $10). Wee Rock! also offers birthday parties and additional concerts throughout 2012! Check out their website or call (502)-415-3543 for more information. And remember... keep rocking!

    About Karen Ellestad

When I was seven and my brother was eight, we both wrote to 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?' for a free t-shirt. Two weeks later his arrived in the mail, signed by Carmen Sandiego herself, accompanied by an autographed picture of the cast, an official membership to the 'Gumshoe Club,' and a Rockapella casette tape. I got a postcard.
