Have you talked about the weather recently? Of course you had. It's one of those weird cultural clichés which actually turns out to be frighteningly accurate. Every so often I'll be conversing with someone and suddenly realize to my consternation that we have been actually discussing the weather. What a boring subject – usually. But here in the Ohio River Valley, things can get kind of crazy, with warmth and sunshine one day and ice and snow the next. Is Global Warming to blame? That's for the scientists to decide, but I, for one, remember having a decent amount of snow when I was a kid.
This weekend, the Kentucky Waterways Alliance presents the fifth annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival, a celebration of the environment which originates in California but goes on tour every year. This year, featured films include:

+Of Souls and Water
+Wonder: The Lives of Anna and Harlan Hubbard
+Second Nature: The Biomimicry Evolution
+Quest For Energy
+Potato Farmers: Facing Climate Change
It all happens tomorrow, Saturday, at the Clifton Center, located at 2117 Payne Street. Tickets are $15 per film. The VIP opening reception begins at 6:00, and $25 gets you admission, as well as a film ticket and a one-year membership to the Kentucky Waterways Alliance. (Current KWA members attend the VIP reception for free.)
