This weekend Pleased to Meet Me opens for an exclusive one week run at Village 8 Theaters. If that title sounds familiar, it’s probably because you read all about it while they shot the entire movie here in Louisville, during the autumn of 2012.
Based on an NPR, “This American Life” documentary by Starlee Kine called “Everyone Speaks Elton John”, Pleased to Meet Me focuses on a lifelong musician who fell through the cracks of his own career and never got the big break he longed for. But at its core, the film is a surly love story centered on the formation of what might be the greatest fictional band ever, which is being assembled in a recording studio for only a single day.
Scenes were shot all over the city, but the crux of the movie is set in Kevin Ratterman’s La La Land Studios. The film stars John Doe, Karen Berquist, Aimee Mann, Loudon Wainwright III, and Joe Henry; directed by local film maker Archie Boles, who co-wrote the script with David Henry.
