The Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs will host the inaugural “Official Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta Celebration” on Friday, Nov. 4, opening day of the World Championships.
Zenyatta, the legendary mare campaigned by trainer John Shirreffs and owners Jerry and Ann Moss, won 19 straight races until her close loss to Blame in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Zenyatta was retired after that race and was bred to 2006 Preakness and Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Bernardini earlier this year.
According to information posted on the Zenyatta Facebook page, the event will feature a luncheon that will include Zenyatta’s connections. The first 500 reservations will receive complimentary seating within their own designated Zenyatta fan section for Friday’s Breeders’ Cup races.
Fans can also purchase tickets to the hospitality retreat, with access and full use of the Derby Museum during the day. An after-party will feature an evening buffet and a cash bar.
Zenyatta will appear live through video feed from her home at Lane’s End.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Breeders’ Cup Charities, which supports the V Foundation for Cancer Research and Thoroughbred Charities of America.
