A very large black and white cat would visit the studio of Joseph McGee nightly, so much so Joseph installed a door for him. McGee pays homage to this ‘cool cat’ in his children’s book, The Amazing Mr. Duke. This book fulfills a promise Joseph made to his daughter, Tasha, many years ago. Now, Tasha is an accomplished fiber artist and making waves with her art.
Tasha can be proud of her dad as he sets the stage for Mr. Duke to join the circus set of characters, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. McGee comments on his story, “In my mind the work takes place in some nether world.” Mr. Duke encounters a host of characters in his pursuit of his circus dreams; all are drawn with extensively clean lines and illustrated with soft tones.
Joseph brings the original 26 prints, complete with text to the exhibit which will take place beginning January 6, ending January 31, 2012. The Wayside Expressions Gallery is located inside Hotel Louisville at 120 West Broadway (Between 1st and 2nd Streets).
An opening reception is scheduled for January 6, from 5 pm until 9 pm at the gallery. A second reception for the event is scheduled for Sunday, January 15th from 2-4 pm. The events are free and open to the public. The gallery is open Monday thru Friday 11:00 am-1:30 pm or other times by appointment. Please feel free to call Randy Webbe at 502/584-3711 for an appointment. The exhibit will surely please the whole family...and the wallet.
