The American Lung Association is hoping you'll step out this Saturday, May 22, for its newly rebranded Lung Walk (formerly the annual Asthma Walk) at the Brown-Foreman Amphitheater on Waterfront Park.  Registration for the 1-mile and 2-mile routes will begin at 8:00 a.m.  The walk begins at 9:00 a.m.

Presented by Kindred Healthcare, the Lung Walk encompasses the American Lung Association's three main areas of emphasis:  Asthma, Lung Cancer, and COPD.  Other major event sponsors include RecoverCare, and Family Allergy & Asthma.  Other on-site activities include free lung function tests provided by Family Allergy & Asthma, health education displays and exhibits, music provided by WAMZ, as well as activities for the kids, like face painting, inflatable slides, photos in Premier Home Care's hot air balloon, and a chance to tell everyone "Why I walk" with a personal sidewalk chalk message.

This walk aims to increase lung disease awareness and raise $160,000 to help fund medical research, patient services, education and advocacy support for public policy.  More than 35 million Americans suffer from lung disease, which is responsible for one in six deaths and ranks as America's #3 killer.  Asthma affects more than 22 million Americans; six in 10 lung cancer patients die within one year of diagnosis; and emphysema, also known as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the fourth leading cause of death in America.  The American Lung Association's mission is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

Come join the estimated 700 participants in the American Lung Association's Lung Walk, and help find a cure for lung disease.

For more information about the Lung Walk, visit The American Lung Association of the Midland States.  Look for other area events, volunteer, ask an expert about lung health with the Lung HelpLine, and even sign up to kick the habit with the Freedom From Smoking program.
