    Bit to Do

On Saturday night, comedian Joel McHale performed to a packed house at the Horseshoe Casino just across the river in Elizabeth, Indiana. Held in The Showroom, the performance was very laid back, and, you guessed it, very funny!

Up and coming comedian, J.F. Harris performed his routine first. His accounts of growing up in New York City with a firefighter father and a constant battle with dyslexia were genuinely funny and provided a good introduction for McHale.

Joel McHale delivered a hilarious show with bits on everything from The Kardashians to his own mother-in-law. A good portion of his routine focused on the state of the entertainment industry, especially when it comes to reality television, just like his show, The Soup, does weekly on E!. With spot on impressions of Bruce Jenner and applying common sense to Tyra Banks’ fear of dolphins (“they’re so easily avoidable”), McHale had the entire audience cackling. McHale also spoke of his family, an avenue he doesn’t often take on The Soup. It was a nice change of pace to hear about McHale’s father and his battle with retailers and his “sometimes genius” son.

McHale even poked fun at this area’s obsession with basketball by picking apart local mascots. Of the Cardinals, he sarcastically remarked that they sounded very intimidating. “I’m going to migrate all over you!” he quipped. As for the Wildcats, he claimed it sounded too generic. “Wild… animal…?” he pondered. Obviously, this had the crowd in an uproar of laughter.

Not much was said about McHale’s sitcom Community, which is running it’s latest season on Yahoo! Screen after being canceled by NBC. McHale did briefly mention Chevy Chase on a list of people he’d “pissed off,” but, unfortunately, that was all.
