Jim James joins WFPK family as a show host

Jim James, of the world famous rock band, My Morning Jacket, has never been shy about his love for his hometown, Louisville, KY. He has also always shown his support of public radio by being a good friend of 91.9 WFPK Louisville. Now he has taken it one step further and will be joining the team at WFPK as a radio host.

James and long-time friend and former Month of Sundays band mate, Dave Givans will be hosting a 1-hour radio program on 91.9 WFPK (or streaming online at wfpk.org) on Wednesdays from 8-9pm. Sir Mircocosm will be a trip through the musical galaxy where they will be creating the ultimate mix-tape. The show is set to premier on Wednesday May 9th and will be taped in Louisville around James’ touring schedule.

“Dave and I both LOVE making mix tapes, and dj-ing in general,” says James, “so now we are DOUBLY excited to get to do it all on the air- with our beloved 91.9 WFPK! We want to provide listeners with the totality of the human experience, in a small, easy-to-digest capsule that can be taken audibly once a week,” James continues. “With regular use of Sir Microcosm, we believe that listeners will come to a better understanding of the human experience, and their place in it."

It seems that James always has his hand in side projects, like his most recent work with Jay Farrar, Will Johnson and Anders Parker that resulted in New Multitudes, new songs with lyrics by Woody Guthrie. James along with the other members of My Morning Jacket are also curators for Forecastle 2012, the Louisville festival focusing on music, art, and activism. Louisvillians (and those tuned in online) should be thrilled to have the chance to take a peak into the mind of a musical genius.
