Jeffersonville's Darryl Baker is one of the top basketball prospects in the nation. The 6-foot-1 combo guard is being recruited by several of the nation's top college programs. I caught up with Baker recently and spoke with him about his game and recruitment.
Baker can play point guard or shooting guard.
"I'm a very creative player," Baker said. "I'm a play maker. I like to get my team involved in the offense. I can get open shots for me and my teammates. I consider myself a combo guard. I can play shooting guard or I can run the point. I like having the ball in my hands best."
Despite having three years left in high school, Baker has already been offered a scholarship by Xavier.
"Xavier, Purdue and Indiana have shown the most interest," Baker said. "Those are the top three. I have a few more schools that are showing interest also. Right now the only offer I have is from Xavier."
Not too long after Xavier offered, Baker decided to take a trip to the Cincinnati school and visit the campus and meet with the coaching staff.
"I visited Xavier a couple weeks ago," Baker said. "I was really nice. I like the fact that they don't have a football program. It's just basketball up there."
Baker made a name for himself last summer, after playing great on the AAU circuit. However, his freshman season was over before it began. Baker torn his ACL during practice and he was forced to sit out the entire year. Now his knee is healthy and he's ready to help lead the Red Devils this up=coming season.
