    Bit to Do

There are a lot of times in our lives that we’re just so busy and distracted that we forget to look around us and admire where we are.

It’s a shame that the connectivity that our iPhones and tablets provide has also forced us to sacrifice the simple pleasure that comes from looking up at the sky or admiring the space around us. In a new series from Louisville.com, “Instagram Your Way Through Louisville,” revisiting some of our favorite Louisville spots and hopefully finding some new favorites.

Be sure to follow our Instagram account @louisvillecom to keep up with the project, and use the hashtags #DiscoverLou and #BestofLou to highlight the local places you're discovering this summer. Louisville is a beautiful city, go out and explore it.

While it’s great to view someone else’s photography and posts, you may be inspired to explore and Instagram on your own. Here are some tips to help you:

Don’t let your phone limit you: While you can take photos through the phone’s established camera app or through Instagram, know that there are many other photography apps that you can utilize. Apps like VSCO Cam utilize light in a different way than the standard app does, allowing users to create more brilliant and beautiful photos. Many apps also allow intense customization that lets the user alter a photo further than a standard filter allows.

In addition to downloading apps, there are some physical add-ons that you can buy for your phone. You can find lenses on Amazon like this one. For $14, you can get two lenses that easily slip on and off your iPhone without getting in the way of the phone’s functionality. Other versions, such as these are available and may offer better results or more options.

Don’t just explore the places you haven’t been: While it’s fun to explore new places, sometimes the places we’ve already been have more to offer than we realize. Think about your favorite restaurant or a place you pass on your way to work and try seeing it in a different light.
