Recorded in the jungle village of Bendekondre, Suriname, Tjúba Tén (The Wet
Season) is composed of community-generated performances, reenactments, and
extemporaneous recordings. The resulting record proposes questions to the viewers
through long takes, materialist approaches, selective subtitling, and a focus on various
forms of cultural labor.
The evening of film will also include a screening of Ben Russell's Black and White Trypps
Number Three, the third part in a series of films dealing with naturally-derived psychedelia. Shot during a performance by Rhode Island noise band Lightning Bolt, this film documents the transformation of a rock audience's collective freak-out into a trance ritual of the highest spiritual order.
"...a filmic portrait of secular rapture that harks back to the great annunciation
canvases of Titian and Caravaggio." – Michael Sicinski, GreenCine Daily
