Having exploded into the spotlight earlier this year, Alabama Shakes have had an insane rise to the top with their debut album Boys & Girls.  Hailing from Athens, GA the group found its roots in a local high school and literally penetrated the global music scene in less than a year.  Led by front-woman Brittany Howard, the sound that is exuded from this quartet has earned them spots on tour with Jack Black, The Late Show with David Letterman, Bonnaroo, and global critical acclaim garnering a top spot in the British charts.

Now enough with the history lesson as its Friday, the weekend is packed with amazing things to do, and I’m warning you not to wear yourself out if you plan on going to this show on Monday!  I’ve listened to Boys & Girls repeatedly since it dropped.  It’s entirely spectacular to say the least.  Although Howard has literally been compared to Janis Joplin more than any singer I can remember, there is much more too Alabama Shakes than her most powerfully intoxicating voice that gives a grown man chills on occasion.  The melody arrangements, a prevailing rock sound, and the instrumentals all around couple flawlessly with Howard’s vocals and witnessing them transform live, I guarantee, will rock you to your core being.

As thousands of you know, since you read all of my brilliant articles, I do enjoy bands with female singers.  (See past articles on Fiona Apple and Heartless Bastards specifically)  That being said, Fiona is tonight and I must say I’m at least equally excited for Monday.  Bad news for those of you snoozing is, it is sold out.  Good news is you should all look for my review on Tuesday and revel in all that you missed!  The best news is, I don’t see this bunch going by the wayside anytime soon.
