James ‘Captain Jim’ Howard
, the owner of the Howard Shipyards, grandson of the company’s founder, James Howard and avid photographer documented the lives of his family and the years of the Steamboats, their voyages and his family’s traditions. They are a part of history and it can be stated that Howard was himself a historian in a way, at least photographically.
“Seen From Life: People, Work and Steamboats, 1885-1932”
features 51 of James “Captain Jim” Howard’s photos saved from the fire that almost destroyed the Howard Steamboat Museum in 1971.

If you are looking for something to do on a quiet Sunday afternoon, I suggest this. It is just over the 65 N. bridge into Jeffersonville IN., across from Jeff Boat. You could have lunch before visiting the museum at Kingfish or there are several other nice restaurants just down the road on Main St., or Dinner after the museum at Kobe’s, one of my favorite, if you like Japanese cuisine, and the side show is excellent!
The “Seen from Life” exhibit and programs are free.
